Her Exact Age Is a Secret, but Kim Jong-Un's Daughter Could Lead North Korea Amid Rumours He's Dead

Unverified claims that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un suffered a fatal brain haemorrhage have exploded across social media. The rumours have also renewed attention on his teenage daughter, Kim Ju Ae, whom South Korea's National Intelligence Service considers his likely successor.
Rumours intensified after the English-language portal of the state-run Pyongyang Times mysteriously went offline and stopped responding. The outage coincided with the online speculation, although no evidence has established a connection between the website's availability and the claims about Kim's health.
However, North Korean state media published photographs on Tuesday that it said showed Kim visiting a clothing and footwear exhibition in Pyongyang alongside his daughter on Monday.
🇰🇵 Amid rumors that Kim Jong Un had fallen into a coma, North Korea’s KCNA published photos of him “inspecting a clothing and footwear exhibition site” with his wife Ri Sol-ju and daughter Kim Ju-ae, presented as "proof of life".

Viral Death Claims and an Abrupt Server Outage
The death allegations originated from social media posts published by Wanjun Xie, chairman of the China Democracy Party. Xie claimed Chinese medical specialists rushed to Pyongyang after Kim suffered a catastrophic cerebral haemorrhage and slipped into a coma.
'Due to the severity of his condition, Kim Jong-un succumbed to his injuries and died,' Xie wrote online. Xie also alleged that Beijing had sent 9,000 troops to Pyongyang and that North Korea's military had entered a heightened state of alert. He provided no publicly verified evidence to substantiate these claims.
Broadcaster Geo News reported that neither North Korea nor China acknowledged any emergency, hospital transfers, or border troop deployments. Analyst Benedict Rogers told The Sun that authentic leadership deaths historically trigger an 'orchestrated outpouring of public grief.'
Rogers said the deaths of North Korean supreme leaders have historically been accompanied by televised displays of public mourning, which had not emerged amid the latest rumours. Their absence, however, does not independently establish whether Kim is alive.
Dictator's Teenage Daughter Groomed for Supreme Power
Although state officials keep Kim Ju Ae's exact age a secret, intelligence analysts increasingly track her public appearances. South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) recently assessed that the teenage girl is actively being positioned to succeed her father.
Ju Ae debuted in November 2022 during a ballistic missile test before joining her father on an official visit to China. If she inherits the leadership, she would become the first female ruler in the history of the communist dynasty.
The Sun reported that analysts consider her influential aunt, Kim Yo Jong, as a possible interim caretaker until Ju Ae matures. Yet an unnamed source warned that any incoming heir faces 'the bloodsport of politics,' including eliminating opponents 'through violent means.'
Kim Jong Un's History of Health Risks and Death Hoaxes
State media showed Ju Ae and her mother, Ri Sol Ju, walking beside Kim at the Pyongyang footwear exhibition. South Korean news outlet Yonhap reported that the exhibition visit was Kim's first reported public appearance since an October 11 visit to a museum, eight days earlier.
While official photographs provide no independent medical assessment, Kim's documented physical vulnerabilities make him a frequent subject of health rumours. South Korean intelligence assessments have previously raised concerns about Kim's weight and possible health problems. However, estimates of his height and weight do not establish his current cardiovascular condition.
Kim also battles diabetes and hypertension alongside heavy cigarette smoking, while an unidentified facial growth on his cheek has visibly enlarged. He previously vanished from public view for six weeks in 2014 and 20 days in 2020, sparking similar false death reports.
Kim inherited absolute power in 2011 following the death of his father, Kim Jong Il, who had ruled since 1994. Until verified clinical evidence emerges, international observers view current claims of his demise as unsubstantiated internet speculation.
