Barbara Palvin Returns to Runway Six Weeks After Birth, Raising Questions About Postpartum Recovery

Barbara Palvin stepped back onto the Victoria's Secret runway in Los Angeles on Sunday 18 October, just a day shy of six weeks after giving birth to her first child, sharpening focus on what recovery from childbirth really involves.
The 33-year-old Hungarian model gave birth to a daughter, Sylvie, on 7 September, according to reports.
She and her husband, actor Dylan Sprouse, 34, announced the birth on 28 September with an Instagram photograph of the family in Los Angeles Dodgers shirts, captioned: 'We took Labor Day literally this year.' Sprouse revealed the baby's name on his Wildmen podcast the following day.
'Not That Big of a Deal': Barbara Palvin on Postpartum Return
Backstage, Palvin told reporters she would be six weeks postpartum the next day. 'I think in the U.S., most people have to go back after six weeks. So it's not that big of a deal,' she said. She added that she felt 'great' and that walking the show was 'very empowering'.
Sprouse was in the front row, filming his wife, cheering her on and blowing her a kiss as she walked. On the pink carpet beforehand, he told an interviewer she had been 'working hard as heck' to prepare and that he was 'amazed by how she's able to compose herself and do it every time'.
Ahead of the show he wrote on Instagram: 'Proud of my missus, jumping right into the VS fashion show post-birth.' Under an Instagram reel posted after the show, Victoria's Secret's official account wrote: 'Dylan giving us another reason to cry tonight.'
Palvin, a Victoria's Secret Angel since 2019, has previously walked through physical problems. She appeared in the 2025 show in New York on a foot she had broken four weeks earlier, months after surgery for endometriosis.
Her rapid return after giving birth drew mixed reactions online. Beneath a Victoria's Secret video of her pushing a pram with a pink 'Angel on board' sign, one fan wrote that she had 'given birth like yesterday'. Another replied that it was 'not a realistic standard for most postpartum moms', while wishing her well in her recovery.
On the Los Angeles Runway Six Weeks After Birth
The show was the third since Victoria's Secret revived the event in 2024 after a six-year hiatus. It was the first held in Los Angeles in nearly two decades, following two editions in New York.
Creative chief Adam Selman had promised a bigger production than recent New York shows. It began at 4.30pm Pacific Time and was streamed live on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
Gigi Hadid, Alex Consani, Paloma Elsesser and Abby Champion were among the models announced in advance, while the musical line-up was made up entirely of women.
Palvin walked in two looks, the first a sheer pink mini dress, during which she blew kisses to performer Megan Moroney. She later returned in a white embellished corset with a flowing train and snowflake-like wings, a reference to her Angel status.
Barbara Palvin and the Six-Week Postpartum Mark
Medical specialists say the six-week milestone is often misunderstood. An NHS-trained obstetrician said it is essentially a minimum safety checkpoint, not an all-clear to resume high-impact work or intense exercise for everyone.
Pelvic-floor specialists describe recovery as highly individual. It depends on the type of birth, any complications, pre-pregnancy fitness, sleep and support at home. Some women feel able to take light exercise within weeks, while others still find walking any distance or sitting comfortably difficult at three months.
Doctors also caution against treating a professional model's appearance as a guide to what is typical. A pelvic-health specialist warned of a risk 'that people quietly internalise it as a standard they are failing to meet'. The specialists did not comment on Palvin's own recovery, and she has not suggested her experience should be a benchmark.
