What Happened to Chad Lowe's Daughter? Family Shares Suicide Prevention Hotline in Heartbreaking Post

Actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter have said their 13-year-old daughter Fiona has died, asking for privacy and sharing the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. A family statement issued on Tuesday 29 September 2026 described her as smart, creative and devoted to dance, but did not name a cause of death.
Family Statement After Fiona Lowe Dies
The Lowe family said they were 'deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona'. They wrote that she was adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents, adding she was the light of our lives. Her passing, they said, is devastating for the entire family.
The note closed with a request for prayers and privacy and a prompt to call or text 988 for anyone struggling with mental health. Fiona Hepler Lowe was born on 16 November 2012, the middle of three daughters. Mabel is 17 and Nixie is 10. Lowe, younger brother of actor Rob Lowe and known for Life Goes On and Pretty Little Liars, marked her thirteenth birthday last November by urging her to keep dancing through life.
Her school community was also informed of a student's death, with counselling made available to students and staff on campus. The family lost their Palisades home in a fire in January 2025.
As of Wednesday afternoon there is no funeral notice, no coroner's statement, and no industry tribute of note.
What Happened to Chad Lowe Daughter and Youth Risk
The family did not confirm how Fiona died. Inclusion of the US crisis number has drawn attention to a separate finding published on 8 September 2026 in JAMA Pediatrics. Psychologist Jean Twenge of San Diego State University analysed federal mortality records and reported that suicide is the second leading cause of death among 10- to 14-year-olds in the United States.
From 2007 to 2024 the rate for girls in that age group rose from 0.51 to 2.28 per 100,000, more than quadrupling, while the boys rate nearly doubled from 1.20 to 2.38. By 2024 the boys rate was only 4 per cent higher.
Twenge has previously argued that social media use is associated with poorer mental-health outcomes among adolescent girls, although the JAMA Pediatrics study itself does not establish a cause for the changing suicide rates. Those figures describe a national trend and do not establish the circumstances of this particular death.
Crisis Line Shared as Relatives Seek Space
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, run through a SAMHSA-funded network of more than 200 local centres, offers free 24-hour call, text and chat support across the United States. Congress designated the three-digit code in 2020 and services moved to 988 in July 2022.
Outlets that first carried the family note on Tuesday evening have repeated the same short tribute without extra detail. By Wednesday 30 September the household had not issued a second statement, and neither Chad Lowe nor Rob Lowe had posted on their own accounts. Fiona's middle name, Hepler, is her late grandmother's maiden name and is also Rob Lowe's middle name.
