G2 Esports Parts Ways With Perkz After He Declares Abortion Is 'Murder' and Vows Never To Change His View
G2 Esports has parted ways with 'League of Legends' head coach Luka 'Perkz' Perković after he described abortion as 'murder' in a lengthy social media statement and said it is a view he 'will die by and never change.'
The esports organisation announced the decision on 5 November 2026, hours after Perković published a lengthy post on X discussing his religious beliefs, politics, past controversies and coaching career.
G2 chief executive Alban Dechelotte said some statements made by the head coach did not align with the organisation's 'stance and values.' He added that G2 had fans from different cultures and backgrounds.
Perković subsequently posted a bible verse from Luke 6:22, but by 6 November 2026 his X account had been deleted, removing both his original statement and his response to G2's decision.
G2 Ends Perkz's Tenure After His Public Statement
Perković's comments about abortion attracted particular attention after he described his position as unchangeable and linked it to his belief that life begins at conception, according to a report by Sheep Esports. He said that he could not understand why other people did not consider it 'murder.'
In the same statement, the former G2 head coach identified himself as Catholic while also discussing his relationship with former G2 chief Carlos 'ocelote' Rodríguez Santiago, the Tate brothers and his views on political figures and international conflicts.
G2 did not specify every individual remark that led to the decision, and its public statement did not name Perković directly. Dechelotte said that the organisation recognised that the head coach's statement had hurt some fans and apologised to them before confirming they had decided to 'terminate our collaboration.'
A report by The Cougar Chronicle said that G2 did not respond to its request for clarification about which specific comments prompted the dismissal or whether Perković's religious beliefs were a factor.
Perkz's Return to G2 Ends After Four Months as Coach
Perković returned to G2 as a positional coach in July 2026 before being promoted to head coach on 10 July. He previously spent years with the team as one of Europe's most prominent professional 'League of Legends' players.
He was also part of the organisation's 2019 Mid-Season Invitational-winning roster. During his 2026 coaching spell, G2 won the LEC Summer title before being eliminated from the World Championship during the Swiss Stage.
Perković's dismissal now leaves G2 preparing to rebuild its coaching staff and roster ahead of the 2027 season. The organisation said it would not announce further changes until the 'League of Legends' free-agency period officially opens.
No replacement for Perković had been announced as of 6 November 2026, and he had not issued a further public statement about his departure after deleting his X account.
Abortion Remarks Draw Backlash From Esports Figures
Perković's statements about abortion prompted direct responses from several prominent figures and groups within the esports community. 'League of Legends' host Laure Valée responded by defending a person's right to make decisions about their own body and urged people not to feel shame over reproductive choices.
French esports host Lou 'Loupiote' Henguelle also criticised Perković's comments, while longtime 'League of Legends' presenter Eefje 'Sjokz' Depoortere reacted by saying that sometimes it is better to say nothing.
Les G2 Samouraïs, a French supporters' association affiliated with G2, also condemned the remarks and expressed support for women following the controversy. It stressed that its affiliation with the organisation did not require it to endorse Perković's statements or remain silent about them.
