Charli XCX has cancelled a concert in Arizona after revealing she has been fighting illness throughout her tour and has now completely lost her voice.

The British pop star announced on Tuesday, 20 October, that she would no longer perform at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale the following evening. The cancellation came just days before the scheduled end of the North American leg of her Music, Fashion, Film Tour.

In a message shared on Instagram Stories, the three-time Grammy winner apologised to fans who had made plans to attend the show.

'I have been fighting sickness throughout this run of shows and have now completely lost my voice,' she wrote.

'I put absolutely everything I have into my performances, both physically and emotionally, and it breaks me that I can't be with you tomorrow.'

The singer, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, did not disclose the specific illness responsible for her symptoms.

Charli XCX Promises Refunds After Cancellation

The cancellation left fans with little notice to rearrange their plans. Charli said her team had tried to find another date for the Arizona performance but had been unsuccessful.

She also confirmed that ticket holders would receive refunds through their original point of purchase.

'I know how much time, planning, and care it takes to come to concerts and appreciate everyone's support immensely,' she wrote, apologising again to fans she affectionately called 'angels'.

Despite the disappointment, Charli promised to return to Arizona in the future.

The cancelled performance was scheduled to be one of the final stops on the North American leg of her tour, which began in Philadelphia on 11 September.

What Happens When You Lose Your Voice?

Losing the voice can be particularly disruptive for professional singers, whose work depends on the ability to produce sound consistently without straining their vocal cords.

One possible cause is laryngitis, an inflammation of the larynx, commonly known as the voice box. It can cause hoarseness, a weak voice or temporary voice loss.

According to the UK's National Health Service (NHS), laryngitis is often associated with viral infections, overusing the voice or irritation. Acute cases typically improve within one to two weeks, although recovery varies depending on the cause.

For performers, continuing to sing while experiencing vocal difficulties may place additional strain on the voice. Resting it and avoiding shouting or singing while symptoms persist can help support recovery.

However, Charli has not confirmed that she has laryngitis, and her statement does not establish what caused her voice loss.

Anyone experiencing persistent hoarseness or recurrent voice problems should seek medical advice, particularly if symptoms do not improve.

Singer Rests Ahead of Las Vegas Show

Charli said she was resting ahead of her scheduled performance in Las Vegas on Friday, 23 October, which she hopes to go ahead with.

'I want to be back onstage and finish this tour together with you,' she wrote.

The cancellation came on the same day the singer announced a new partnership with Absolut, adding to an otherwise busy period for the star.

Her Music, Fashion, Film Tour is expected to continue beyond the US, with its wider schedule extending into 24 February 2027.

For now, fans will be watching to see whether the singer recovers sufficiently to perform in Las Vegas. While Charli has expressed her intention to return to the stage, her statement does not guarantee that the show will proceed as planned.
