Kadeena Cox, Paralympian With MS, Claims A&E Told Her to Take Paracetamol After She Asked for an Ultrasound

Paralympian Kadeena Cox has said an A&E doctor's advice was 'purely to take paracetamol' after she went to hospital in pain. The 35-year-old, who has multiple sclerosis, shared details of her A&E visit on Instagram and said she has large fibroids. She is now waiting to see her gynaecologist.
What Cox Told Her Followers From Hospital
Cox shared a selfie from A&E with her 186,000 Instagram followers, saying it looked set to be a long day and that she had left her headphones behind. Hours later, she posted a video of her swollen stomach, saying the doctor's advice was 'purely to take paracetamol'.
She also revealed that she had large, pre-existing fibroids and was waiting to see her gynaecologist after experiencing pain for about a week.
Cox said she planned to follow her mother's advice, applying castor oil to the painful area and her belly button. She ended the video by saying they would have to 'hope for the best'.
Fibroids and the Question of Further Tests
A caption on a related post said she had 'pretty large fibroids in there for someone who asked'. She added that they were not new, unlike the pain, which began about a week earlier.
The posts quoted in reports do not say what test, if any, she requested, or how the fibroids were identified. Nor has any hospital or NHS trust response been published in the reports reviewed, and the hospital has not been named.
Fibroids are common, non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb. They do not always cause symptoms, but some women experience abdominal pain, painful periods or heavy menstrual bleeding.
Treatment depends on the symptoms and may include painkillers or other medication. The NHS lists ibuprofen, naproxen and diclofenac among the painkillers that may be offered for painful fibroid symptoms.
Paracetamol is therefore a recognised option for fibroid pain in general terms. That is background rather than a comment on Cox's own treatment.
A Career Built Around Medical Setbacks
Cox was taken to hospital with a suspected stroke in 2014 and was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, aged 23. She went on to win two gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, becoming the first Briton in 32 years to take gold in two sports at the same Games.
She also won Celebrity MasterChef in September 2021, the year she appeared on I'm A Celebrity, when the series was filmed at Gwrych Castle in North Wales because of the pandemic. She later said fatigue and spasms made that a struggle, and that campmates helped her into bed and to the toilet. She has spoken openly about her condition before, saying cold weather left her struggling to walk.
In August 2026 she won silver in the C4-C5 1000m time trial at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. At Paris 2024, she crashed in the C4-5 time trial final, ending an eight-year reign as Paralympic champion in that event.
Reports of her hospital visit were published on 22 October 2026. In the reports reviewed, Cox has not said whether she has since seen her gynaecologist. For now, the Kadeena Cox A&E account rests on her own Instagram posts, which describe a week of pain, advice to take paracetamol and a wait for a specialist appointment.
