Salmonella Found in Dubai-Style Chocolates

World of Sweets has recalled Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate (100g) and Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles (120g) after Salmonella was detected. The recall covers the UK.

The products carry codes 318591 and 319456, and all best-before dates are included. Buyers should not eat either product and should keep the packaging separate from other food.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. People with symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery for at least 48 hours after symptoms stop.

Salmonella causes food poisoning, with symptoms usually starting 12 to 72 hours after exposure and lasting four to seven days. The NHS said there are more than 2,500 types of Salmonella, with most infections linked to contaminated food.

Most people can manage the illness at home by resting and drinking plenty of clear fluids. NHS 111 should be contacted for dehydration that does not improve with rehydration sachets, or if bloody diarrhoea develops.

Waitrose Oat Drink Recalled

Waitrose has recalled its Essential Unsweetened Oat Drink 1L from UK supermarkets after a 'breakdown in temperature control'. The retailer said the drink is 'unsafe to drink' because the storage conditions created a risk of microbiological contamination.

All cartons with best-before dates from 14 August to 29 October 2026 are affected. The recall applies to products purchased from Waitrose shops or through on-demand grocery delivery between 2 September and 21 September 2026.

Hand Wash and Toy Risks

Batches 6210A and 6211A of the Baylis & Harding Oud, Cedar & Amber 1L Hand Wash Refill have been recalled over a 'microbiological risk'. Testing identified the presence of Pluralibacter gergoviae in the affected batches.

The recall notice said contamination may cause infection or adverse health effects, particularly in vulnerable users or people with a compromised skin barrier. The batch number is printed on the base of the pouch.

Customers should stop using the hand wash immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, the Cosmetics Regulation.

Smyths Toys has withdrawn its Wooden Cornhole Board with Bean Bags game, model number 233254, after testing found that sand inside the bean bags may contain small quantities of asbestos.

The retailer advised sealing the product in a heavy-duty plastic bag and keeping it out of children's reach. If a bag bursts, an FFP2 or equivalent mask and gloves should be worn, while returns can be made without a receipt.

The use and importation of asbestos in Great Britain were banned in 1999, although asbestos-containing products may still be found in older buildings and products.

The latest recall notices underline how risks can affect everyday products beyond food, from toiletries to children's toys. Shoppers should check the product names, batch codes and dates against the relevant recall notices before using or eating them.
